Playback issue with Percussion Instruments

• May 23, 2025 - 17:01

I'm transcribing some music at the moment, and came across what could possibly be a bug? The problem is regarding a percussion stanza switching between multiple instruments. It starts off with Glockenspiel, and then does both Suspended and Crash Cymbal, and then switches back to Glockenspiel. However, the playback refuses to produce any sound for the Glockenspiel when it comes back to the instrument after the Cymbals. The opening glockenspiel still has playback. I recreated the part without changing the number of lines on a stanza at any point, and the problem persisted, so it's related specifically to the switching of instruments in playback. Please help.

Not my area of knowledge, but a possibility is that the problem arises from switching between pitched and unpitched percussion??? I know that can cause issues sometimes.

If you add the score causing the problem, maybe someone with experience in percussion can help you. Without the score, it is difficult to solve the problem.

I think, if you "add" on the same stave, different types of stave, you can have troubles........no problem if you add percussion stave with percussion stave, but if you add a standard stave (like Glockenspiel) with 5 lignes if you add with a percussion stave with 2 lignes or other, you may have problems

Even If you "add" on the same staff a percussion intrument for example with 3 lines staff and try to "add" another percussion staff with 5 lines, you also will have problems. i.e. the number of lines of the last introduced instrument will become the number of lines of the staff. In the last version of MuseScore 4.5.2, just now it is not possible to align different instruments in one staff in such a way, that every "added" instruments keeps its original staff number of lines. I think, in the handbook ist something related to this point.
