Lyrics don't work right on new version. MS4 4.5.2
I updated today to the newest version. When I put in lyrics, hitting the space-bar to skip to the next word doesn't work. Is it a setting that I need to set? Also, the dash and underline (to split a word) doesnt work. it doesn't recognize hitting the dash key on my keyboard at all.
Also, I thought when inputting chords, hitting the spacebar skipped to the next beat. I tried TAB also. Neither of them work. I have to Ctrl-K for every chord.

Revert to factory settings

Thanks. Is there a setting that says, "revert to factory settings"? How do I get to it. FYI: I don't remember doing anything to change factory settings for lyrics or chords.

Help / Revert to factory settings
This doesn't imply that you did anything. Just something got out of whack and things need to be reset.

Thanks, but you don't tell me where to find the button to reset settings? Also, once reset, do I have to restart program?

Just do it and see...
It'll restart the program automacgically

I did tell you "where to find the button to reset settings". Quite explicitly: Click on the Help menu item in the main menu. From the menu that appears, click Reset to factory settings.
I've never had to do it, but I would definitely expect you to need to restart the program. (I would do it for good measure, even if someone told me it was not necessary.)

AH, in the title of your comment. I thought you were just telling me you are helping me find the revert settings. LOL

Reset settings, restarted program and it still doesn't work. It doesn't recognize the dash key at all or the space-bar.

Works for me. Please post a score you've tried to put lyrics in.

AH. I just found out what is wrong. The spacebar and dash do not work if your writing lyrics on rests. Instead of 4 quarter notes in a measure I have 4 quarter rests. I am trying to create a guitar leadsheet. All it has are chords, no notes. But since its a song, i wanna put in lyrics, so I am substituting notes with rests. I realize you can't put lyrics (in time) on blank measures, so I am using rests. Is that a bug? If that is a feature, not a bug, what is the workaround. I don't wanna use system text because it doesn't handle melismas correctly. If its not a bug, I would like to submit a feature to add the ability to add lyrics correctly on rests.

You're right. That would work. But I wanna create something more formal looking using MS4.

Are you not using notes to make thing easier for those who don't read music? If it is anything like that, using a staff with just rests might be confusing.

Well, I am creating a guitar lead sheet. The guitar player will just be strumming the guitar to the chords, he doesn't need to read the notes. TBH, I don't wanna add notes because that takes more effort, is slower and will not be needed. It may even confuse the guitar player, especially if there are melismas.

Use slash notation then, these are working like notes, just silent

You know, hadn't thought of that. That just might work. guitarists know slash marks.

The ability of adding lyrics to rests is a relatively new feature, but does indeed have its shortcommings.

Thanks Jojo. To me, there should not be any difference between adding lyrics to notes or rests. Musically speaking there is no difference between a rest and a note, they both are place holders for counting time. Also programmatically there shouldn't be a difference, they are both objects in a score that you can interact with. Just because one makes a sound should not have anything to do with it.
Since you say this is a new feature, would it be a bug that melismas and space bar to advance do not work? I can submit a bug report.

Less a bug than a missing feature.
And it isn't that new, exists in Mu3 already
Skipping rests in 'normal' lyrics entry should be kept. But some better way to to move into or out of a lyric for a rest should be made possible, maybe Alt+Space, Alt+- and Alt+_ (Ctrl or Shift won't work here)

Just like you can skip notes with the dash (-), you should be able to skip rests with a dash, if you want Or with the space bar. Just keep hitting the space bar until it lines up with where you want to continue. But for now, the spacebar doesn't work with rests.

Adding a proper/better workflow to lyrics on rests should under no circumstance destroy the exising and good workflow for lyrics on notes!
Lyrics on rests are the absolute exception, really rarely used.

Ok, thats fine but seems MS doesn't have a good method for notating lyrics on guitar lead sheets, which are not rarely used, infact, they are used all the time by professional and amateur musicians. Guitar lead sheet do not normally have notes. Only exception is when a passage asks for fingering exact notes.
Your suggestion of slashes sounds good, but now I can't find how to input slashes and the help doesn't have anything. Also, are there different timings for slash notes, just like regular notes?

There's rhythmic slash notation.

Thank you. I found how to do it, but it puts half-note slashes (two per measure) and I can't figure out how to put quarter note slashes. I tried highlighting the measures, after inputting the half-note slashes, and hitting the quarter note symbol on the menu, oddly, it alternates quarter note slashes with quarter note rests. I tried first changing the whole note rest to quarter note rests, THEN doing the fill with slashes but, oddly, it STILL puts in half note slashes. Any advice?

Read the section on Creating rhythmic slash notation in that section: https://handbook.musescore.org/alternative-notation/slash-notation#crea…

Slash notation creates the slashes as per the time signature, so 2 half notes in a 2/2 , but 4 quarters in a 4/4 and 2 dotted quarters in a 6/8 time signature, so really one slash per beat

I suspect that there are some pretty famous composers that would disagree.
Anyway, as a guitar player, all I ever needed was lyrics and chords. Period. Easy. No need for forcing MuseScore to do something it can't.
