shortcuts for Stretch layout are not working as they should

• Apr 28, 2025 - 13:40

Hi
Some of my keyboard shortcuts seems to have been corrupted. I posted a question about this some time ago, but haven't followed up, and haven't heard anything. Now the issue has escalated a bit. First the the shortcut for Reset stretch layout (=) didn't work at all. After fiddling a little with customizing these shortcuts I became used to some settings on my swedish keyboard, and increasing and decreasing worked, but never Reset. Recently I changed from Windows to Mac and for some reason my custom shortcuts has followed along (See screenshot). I used to save my scores and settings to Icloud for Windows, I guess that has something to do with it. But now they are not working at all, despite factory reset of both settings and entire Musescore. I can set them to something else end then it works, but if I reset the settings they revert to my old ones, not the default, "{" and "}"
Thanks

As far as I can remember, there has never been a 'by-default' shortcut for Reset stretch. Certainly not in v.4 and my recollection of v. 2 and 3 is the same. As far as I can remember, the equals sign (=) 'by-default' has always been the shortcut for Toggle accidental: natural. Performing the factory reset should set them to be so. ... but yes, it should also set the increase stretch and decrease stretch to the brace characters ("{" and "}")

In general, stretch is not the best way to adjust the size of your notation. Using the tools in the Layout panel/palette (depending on your version) is MUCH easier and works better.

Yes, my bad, I mixed things up in my head when typing. But I have had troubles with "=" not working as well, for toggling accidental. However, the main issue here is that even when resetting everything, everything is in fact not reset.
When it comes to how to work you have to find your own way, and my way is i mix of stretching and the Layout palette. Sometimes MS does a pretty good job on its own, sometimes you need to add a brea of some sort somewhere, and yet again sometimes just strecthing a tiny bit makes all the difference in producing a beautiful score.
