Suggestion: Shortcuts for Accidentals

• Apr 24, 2025 - 13:30

While the sharp and flat accidentals can be accessed with the up and down arrow keys, I believe a way to input configure shortcuts to input accidentals directly would be great. The main reason I am suggesting this is to ease the workflow of people who use the other "non-traditional" accidentals (often used for microtonal and non-Western music). I believe a good way to implement this would be to have users select certain accidentals and have a key that effectively scrolls through them, one by one (I think the [square bracket] keys might be a good fit).

While in note entry mode, press ...
A - Enters an unmodified A note (the specific pitch will be modified by the key signature)
+ , A - Enters an explicit A#
- , A - Enters an explicit Ab
= , A - Enters an explicit A natural
The last three explicitly ignore the key signature. IOW, the A# will be so, even if the key signature is in flats and the Ab will be so even if it is in sharps.
