Is there a frame (vertical, horizontal or text) just before the bar where you want to change the duration?
2th question: which is the nominal duration (the current one) vs. actual (the one you want to change) ?
Curiously enough, there seems to be a particular “sensitivity” if Actual duration is changed to 3/8
I can't reproduce here this with 4.5.2. See the image below: a score in 3/4, adding a text frame before the measure whose Actual duration is changed, i.e. in 3/8, and all's well - image below.
In your case, it may be another problem specific to your score. To find out, we need you to attach your .mscz file for investigation. Don't forget also to specify exactly what you do (and where, in the score)
I went to reproduce it so I could send it as you requested and did exactly the same thing again - and it worked! So I don't know what I did differently, but I did try three times originally and it closed MS each time.
However, this message has now popped up.
I have also attached the score.
Thanks for the score. But it is 5 pages long, and there's already an anacrusis.
Please, as requested, what exactly are you doing, and where in your score (which measure? in main score or in a part?) and other details if relevant.
I am using the main score.
Yes there is an anacrusis in the first bar, so I am trying to end the score with a three beat bar to 'complete' the four beats.
Steps taken:-
1. Select the final bar (before the double bar line)
2. Right-click on the bar and select Bar Properties from the menu
3. In 'Properties for Bar 67' change 'Bar duration' in 'Actual' field to 3 from 4 to match the anacrusis at the beginning of the score.
4. Click 'OK' or 'Apply'
5. The programme crashes, as it did first three times, or comes up with the error message, as it did for consequent attempts.
As far as I can see, the problem is in the Flute part, measure/bar 67. It doesn't update when the measure duration is changed. This is a corruption, and is the cause of the crash. Before looking for the underlying problem (I haven't checked to see if it's been reported on Github), simply reset this Flute part (click on the three dots... opposite the name of this part, then Reset). The duration will then change as expected. See: 1Time Never Stops SAB with Baritone soloist and Flute.mscz

For the record, the workaround is to first change the duration of the measure, then insert a frame to it.
Also happens in 4.5.2

Sorry - I'm being thick - can't see the three dots
(Although I have created and saved this score in MS4, it's trying to open it in MS3)

Go to Parts (middle of the toolbar), then the three dots "..." opposite/at the right of the Flute name" -image below.
EDIT: you cannot open this score with MS3 (only by exporting to MusicXLM format). But what would be the goal?
