MuseScore Studio v. 4.3.2 - Piano Dynamics - Grand Staff

I cannot for the life of me get the dynamics on each staff of the grand staff for a regular piano part to behave or function independently (e.g., as in my simple example attached below, softer accompaniment to a louder melody). I know this point has been an issue sometimes in prior versions, but I thought it was fixed (!?). I googled and looked through these forums before posting, but really couldn't find anything current or that made sense to me.

I understand I could always use two pianos and take a staff from each (while hiding the other) but that creates all kinds of problems/issues down the line when exporting (e.g., as a music xml file) and in any case really isn't a satisfactory solution.

If anyone can explain to me what is going on here, what I could do to address this (am I doing something wrong?), and so on, I'd greatly appreciate it. Apologies in advance if this has already been addressed somewhere and I missed it . . .
