Continuous view -- can I disable the start-of-system ghosted items?

• Nov 19, 2022 - 12:11

My first use of "continuous view" was just what I was looking for... until I started moving further along the score measures. I didn't expect to see a ghosted view of the start of the system (I don't know how to describe it). It gets more distracting when higher zoom levels are used.

I can't find a way to turn off / disable the ghosted items? Thanks.

In continuous view these are just reminders about the key and time signature, the bar number and which line applies to which instrument. As far as I know they can't be switched off totally an only for continuous view.
Parts of them can be hidden for each staff seperately in the Staff/Part Properties dialogue but the space where they have been will remain grey.
If you do this it is also hidden in page view.
I find this helpful!

Hmm, I thought you said this was your first time using continuous view - how did you become used to it in continuous view before? Continuous view has never not had the guides, so I don't see how you could have done this.

Page view is totally different, you can see the beginning of the staff left inches to your left, no matter how deep into the score you are. That's what makes continuous view qualitatively different. But as mentioned, you can coerce page view into functioning pretty much the same way but without the guides.

(Menu) Edit >Preferences >Advanced
Change the value of [ui/score/layoutBreakColor] to match your paper color.

Of course, this obscures a small part of the start of each stave but it doesn't sound as if this will bother you. It also hides any breaks but you won't be needing to see them in Continuous View.
